I am so glad I'm not cutting the boards for this book. Today it was brought home to me that, despite a metal T-square, a True Edge screwed to my worktop, and a triangle, I'm incapable of cutting 90 degree corners. 89, 91, sure, but not 90. WTIF? It took me three tries to cut the jig for the central cut-out today, and that's just nucking futz.
Despite this ineptitude, I managed to get the jig cut, finally, along with a couple of corrugated jigs to act as padding around the slide mailers while the boards are in the press. Got the first layer of paper on the covers, with the slide mailers mounted in. I did the mounting with linen mounting tape and you can see a bit of the outline of it on the back of the board, beneath the endsheet. But I think I can live with that. Also punched the holes for mounting the hand beads. All that's left to do on them now is the final layer of paper on the front, mounting the beads and the bone closure. Then they'll be ready to sew to the signatures. Or something. (Click thumbnails for larger images.)

Now that I look at the whole cover, I'm rethinking how to put the Thai fabric backed paper on. It's too thick to fold under an endsheet, so I've been thinking about just gluing it loosely to the top and letting it unravel at the edges. Now I'm starting to wonder if it might not look better glued in strips, like a bandage. Hmmmmmm . . . .
