Okay, I couldn't resist this. I gacked it from Egret's site (she's Chekhov); we're both long-time Star Trek fans (though I refuse to call myself either a Trekker or a Trekkie, or whatever the geekily correct term is these days. I'm just a fan.) I suspect Jen will be miffed that I've come out as her alter-ego, although I also came out with equal parts Geordi and Deanna. That's okay. I like them, too. There are no DS9 characters, or I probably would have come out as Kira, just for all the ear jewelry. Once upon a time, I wore a fair amount of it myself and still wear at least three different earrings, asymmetrically.

Speaking of geek stuff, I ran across a great science blog, thanks to the NYTimes, of all things, called The Scientific Activist. It's not as amusing as Cocktail Party Physics (where I've contributed the recipe for the physics cocktail called a Black Hole), but just as interesting. It's nice to see someone in the blogosphere covering science as real news besides the news feeds at, say New Scientist—where I recently learned the new 10th planet, which is bigger than Pluto, has been dubbed (wait for it) Xena!—or Wired, which has so much annoying gamer news anymore. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough, but it's tough to find decent science news, even on the Web. The magazines are either too dumbed down (Discover) or just that wee bit too technical for my taste (Scientific American). This is one of the reasons I like New Scientist, which also has cool art in it as illustrations. It's a bit more in-depth without being full of horrible citations and the usual lab report format to wade through. But good science writing for the public is still hard to find, which is why you should keep an eye on Jen's site, Cocktail Party Physics, and buy her book, Black Bodies and Quantum Cats (see the link in Head Candy in the sidebar).
I took the quiz, and I'm Jean-Luc Picard, too!

Well that's silly! We can't both be Jean-Luc, Jen-Luc. I'll have to be Kira, cuz you have a prior claim.
