I'm endlessly fascinated by the way people's lives intersect randomly or coincidentally. For instance, I left work kinda late tonight, walked a bit before getting on the train, took the local instead of the express, stopped at the store to get some bananas, then turned the corner to walk right up to my former downstairs neighbor whom I haven't seen in three years. Les was just coming from another friend's house, wandering by to take a look at the old place.
Les and Larry and I shared this house for almost ten years, I think, they in the downstairs apartment, I in the upstairs. When the house was sold for the second time in my tenure (three landlords, three ethnic groups: Irish-American, Greek, and now Hispanic), Les and Larry had to go. They wound up moving to the Bronx together, originally to Co-op City. We lost touch, though Les wandered by every now and then to pick up his mail or see other friends in the hood. But I haven't seen Larry since they moved out.
Now, it turns out, Les and Larry and I will be living within a couple of miles of each other. They're in Pelham Parkway and I'll be in Parkchester. We have the same zip code again. We called Larry, and Les and I exchanged addresses and emails and now we'll be in touch again. And we'd all just been thinking about each other again, me because I was moving and them, well, I guess because they like me.
